Another Replaceable Part of the Ship of Theseus: Hoodie
About the Design
The Ship of Theseus is a thought experiment that asks whether something that has all of its parts replaced with new ones completely changes its identity.
Theseus was the mythical founder of Athens, and among his fabled adventures was his rescue of Athenian children being held on Crete. The people of Athens were said to celebrate this event year after year with a symbolic voyage on the ship Theseus used in his escape.
Philosophers of ancient Greece posed the question: if, over centuries of use and maintenance on this vessel, every single part of it were replaced with new ones, is there any sense in which the resulting ship is still the Ship of Theseus?
